When you are preparing an or planning for a Photoshoot here are some general tips and tricks that I have found out to be helpful. I found these helpful and I got good feedback from my clients on these points. Keep in mind that not every photographer might care to tell you these details but if you are working with me... well here you go:
1. Consult with your photographer for the look you are going for, for the style of photography you like, if you have something specific in mind or a general idea that you are leaning toward, you can take some images off of Pinterest or other platforms and show them to your photographer
2. When you are selecting an outfit or a few potential outfits for a photoshoot there are a few points that are important to keep in mind. Try to select SOLID colors. Printed patterns tipically distract, unless you trying to create a specific look that requires pattern prints, a general rule for a photoshoot or headshot where the attention is on you, is to select a nice solid color that you feel looks good and compliments your tones. Something that you can definitely play with, instead of patterns are different textures. Textures look GREAT on photos and often help to create depth. It again, depends on the look you are going for, but hopefully this tip helped you.
3. Another point about the outfit: make sure you iron the shirt or dress you are going to wear. This is so important though so many times overlooked in planning for a photoshoot. There is nothing worse than having a beautiful face of makeup and done-up hair and having a shabby wrinkly shirt that has been sitting at the bottom of a bag in a hot car. Unless that is the look you are going for intentionally of course - it is a good idea to iron or dry clean if you wish, at least the blouse you are going to wear and bring it on a hanger.
4. Of course, make sure that you have your hair and make up done by the time you arrive for the photoshoot. This will save so much time and will make a DRAMATIC difference also in how you feel - you will feel more confident and more present as you know you look great. If you need to consult with your photographer on this, do so as make up can play a dramatic part in the art of creating an amazing photograph.
5. IF you have angles that you feel that you look your best let your photographer know. Also if you don't mind, tell them the things you don't like that you prefer to not accentuate and show as this will help them to plan for the photo. For example if you are short and want to seem taller, if you want to make some feature of your face appear smaller or bigger (nose, chin, jaw, eyes, etc), there are different angles that come into play.
6. It is teamwork of you and photographer who work together to create amazing and epic shots.
Good luck and let me know if you have any questions!
A presto (see you soon in Italian),
Cristina
